We, the Catalans, exist as a nation since 865 approx. We were a nation until 1.412, when saddly the catalan dinasty become extincted with the death of the last Catalan-Aragonese King, Martí L'Humà (Martin "The Human"). In the Commitent of Caspe, the Catalan Courts, decided (wrongly) to became a Castilian dinasty , (by an advisability marriage), under the condition of this one will respect all laws and Catalan Institutions, represented by The Generalitat (Catalan Goverment). And it's clear, Castilian mind wasn't ready to respect any agreement, and by what we see, they won't be ready ever.

Since then, they tried to rape these agreements systematically. If we were whose do it to them, they would call us treacherous, ignobels and nazis, but as they are who do it, they rest pacefully and think we prostitute ourselves for money.

Most Castilian seem to be obsessed with the idea that Catalan people just think about money. This idea come from one time that, after Spain sacked the Americas, their decline drove them to almost die of hunger. And then, they realised they have some outlying "provinces", where curiously, by the Spanish prohibition to let them go to sack the Americas (this is their mentality), they, the Catalans, had to work a lot in their own country, creating wealth from nothing with their thriving industry. So, despite the sicken they felt for the Catalan bussinesmen for their "money eagerness", they didn't felt sickness of emigrate to Catalan lands to earn more money, and even less, to recive it by means of taxes they managed with Phoenician abilty (for their battles and wastes in the Capital).

About the defeat from 1714, (September 11, 1714, today celebrated as Catalonia's National day), was thanks to the english betrayal (we had a collaboration agreement in case of invasion). Well, it happened that the archduke Carlos, our candidate to inherit the crown of Carlos II, inherited while the contest the Austrian crown, so, the european forces were well-balanced, and England decided to left Catalans to their fate -Treaty of Utrecht 1713-, and although England failed to the agreement, they kept Menorca and Gibraltar. The Castilian-French army spent TWO years to come in Barcelona, after besiege them by sea and land with MUCH more higher military resources. Thanks to that, the castilian language, that since then become Spanish, was set by force in Catalonia. Even Catalan language was forbidden twice in our history.

Forever prosperous, republican and separatist, the Catalan's regained their autonomy briefly during the Second Republic, 1932 - 1939, only to be crushed by Franco and the Nationalists, whose repression of everything Catalan lasted until the new Constitution of 1978 reestablished a measure of self government. Since then, Catalonia has flourished in every way, becoming Spain's leading economic region with almost 20% of GNP for a region that is only 6% of Spain's land mass and 15% of the population.

After almost 300 years, Catalans are stubbornly with our language and our hungry for self-government. We are an unique case of survival in all Europe, maybe in all the world. Any spanish politician could never and ever change the mind of a nationalistic catalan . We are going to be forever their pain in the ass.
